Street Maintenance Tech

Are you ready to make a significant impact on your community and the environment? We are excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a talented and experienced Operator to join our team. Our Equipment Operators are responsible for the maintenance of the City’s roads and property by performing the following duties. 

Representative List of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   The list is not intended to be all-inclusive nor exclusive, but is intended to provide examples of typical duties performed. 

  • Cuts grass and trims weeds. 
  • Operates backhoe to dig trenches for pipes. 
  • Operates brush truck to collect and deliver brush to landfill. 
  • Repairs streets and sidewalks.  
  • Barricades roads for floods or event purposes. 
  • Removes and replaces damaged traffic signs. 
  • Replaces worn or damaged parts in machines and equipment. 
  • Assists with set-up and take down of holiday decorations. 
  • Operates backhoes, excavators, asphalt rollers, boom mowers, zero turn mowers, floor saws, grapple trucks, brush trucks, side arm, and other various small power tools or heavy equipment. 

Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in construction, equipment operation or commercial landscaping. 

Certificates and Licenses:  

  • Valid Alabama Driver’s License 
  • Commercial Driver’s License 

Physical Demands: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. 

Compensation: Compensation for this position is $45,342 - $61,796, depending on experience, education, and other training. The City of Pelham offers an excellent benefits package.
