ReAmp: Reimagine OMA
The Oak Mountain Amphitheatre has played a big role in Pelham's past. Now, it's time to look ahead, and we asked your input on what you want the future of this iconic location to look like.
What Is ReAmp?
On July 22-24, 2025, the City of Pelham hosted ReAmp: Reimagine OMA (Oak Mountain Amphitheatre) at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena. The three-day community design event, known as a charrette, brought together residents, stakeholders, and planning experts to envision new possibilities for the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre site.
Throughout the three-day event, our team gathered ideas, listened to public input, and worked behind the scenes to develop a vision that reflects the heart of our community. In the final presentation of ReAmp, the design team from Williams Blackstock Architects revealed early concepts inspired by your feedback.
Why It Matters
We have a rare opportunity to reshape one of Pelham's most visible and well-known properties. We envision the site's next chapter serving the community in fresh, meaningful ways, and the perspective you provided will help shape that vision.
Outstanding Engagement
On Monday, August 18, 2025, Stephen Allen with Williams Blackstock Architects presented a preliminary vision, complete with watercolor renderings, to the Pelham City Council. The information was based on the input gathered during the three-day ReAmp: Reimagine OMA event. Allen reported that over 708 people responded to the Visual Preference Survey, and at least 214 attended the public workshop (charrette). During the stakeholder input portion of the event, about 51 adjacent business owners, potential developers, community leaders, and elected officials participated. One hundred twenty people attended the closing presentation, where the charrette data was revealed.
Allen revealed the common ideas and themes:
- The desire for walkability and movement in the Arts & Entertainment District.
- Ways to connect and celebrate the unique nearby attractions of Oak Mountain State Park, the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena, and the Pelham Greenway Trail system.
- A welcoming mixed-use destination and a new town center for Pelham and the surrounding area with adjacent greenway trails and open spaces.
- A desire to attract day and night activity, and to complement figure skating and hockey at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena.
- Embracing natural amenities and access to outdoor recreation as a setting and theme.
- The ability to appeal to both the local community and visitors.
- A way to balance the parking needs for the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena and the new redevelopment project.
- Enhancing the quality of life for Pelham residents and the broader community.
